Woodlands, hills, open fields… walking, hiking… the wide open spaces between the rivers Rhine and IJssel for bicycle rides, inviting terraces and restaurants, castles, wine yards, charming villages…

Explore the culture and nature of The Achterhoek near the ‘Bergherbos’ forest (Montferland) from a lovely, spacious, quiet base in guest house ‘De Rode Waan (the Red Delusion) at ‘The Waanhoeve’.

Your light and airy, spacious renovated farm holiday apartment accommodates two persons and is equipped with all the modern comforts. Wake up with the sound of cackling chickens or the whinny of the horses. Enjoy the free views all-round and your own private non overlooked terrace. There is peace and quiet and your privacy is both is respected and guaranteed. Your are the only guests.

Dogs are not only welcome, but appreciated guests.

Your Bed and Breakfast

West of the Bergherbos (Montferland) forest, in the south east corner of the Achterhoek the village Beek is located. And on the outskirts of Beek, at the end of a private dirt road with great, free views all around you will find The Waanhoeve in a renovated farm dating back tot 1890. The aerial photograph shows it wonderful free location. The ‘civilized world’ however is on walking en cycling distance close by. Towns like ’s Heerenbergh (with its castle Huis Bergh), Doetinchem and Doesburg in The Netherlands and Emmerich and Kleve just across the border in Germany are worth a visit. The region offers you a lot: besides scenic cycle routes in the border -river region between Rhine and IJssel there are vineyards, castles, mills, museums, lovely restaurants and inviting terraces as well as attractive events of various sorts the whole year around. The famous trails ’the Pieterpad’ and ’the Naoberpad’ run close by your holiday home.

The Room

Private entrée, private, non overlooked terrace, bicycles is a safe in a lockable shed with electricity, private parking in the yard, box spring beds (2.10 m), walking rain shower, combo-microwave, flat screen television and other extras. For your dog there is a bench available at no charge.

The kitchen is fully equipped but, on request, an optional continental breakfast (standard or vegetarian) can be served.

Close by are a range of restaurants and in the village, at approx 500 m there is a supermarket, open 7 days a week.

For a baby (or nipper) a baby bed, a baby bath tub and a trip trap chair are available at no costs.

The bantam chickens do produce eggs and, when available, are happily shared with our guests.

Hiking in the Netherlands

Access to The Waanhoeve

  • take the A12 (A3 in Germany) motorway direction: Arnhem – Oberhausen (Germany);
  • take exit Elten/Beek (first exit after the Dutch / German border, German side);
  • take direction Beek;
  • after 2 km you notice the village sign ‘Beek’;
  • after you pass this sign take the first left (at Hotel Zonneheuvel): Schaapsdrift;
  • Take the first left: Deelhorstweg;
  • Ignore the dead end street sign, pass it by, and after approx. 50 m take the dirt road to the right;
  • At the end you will find your destination, the white farm: The Waanhoeve.
